Carolyn and I retire on September 21. Four days later, we will start hiking the Appalachian Trail. It is hard to leave a job I love and a great team that does important work really well. After working and saving for 37 years, the time has come to enjoy the fruits of our labors while we are still young enough to do crazy things like this.
One of my dreams has been to hike the AT. Thankfully, Carolyn has signed onto this dream. We love the outdoors. We spend most of our vacation time hiking, paddling, camping and exploring the wilderness around the U.S.
We will start hiking south from Damascus, VA – a few miles north of Tennessee. We will reach Springer Mountain and Amicalola State Park in Georgia around Thanksgiving or perhaps in December. We will winter in Maryland, cross-country skiing and visiting family. We will start hiking north from Damascus, VA in March. We will finish at Katahdin in Maine next summer.
We will be creating an interesting and entertaining “he said” / “she said” blog as we hike. You will get to see both spectacular pictures and awful pictures (maybe a rainy day full of mud). You will hear our excitement and our exasperation. This will be a great adventure with both highs and lows.
Please follow our journey!
