We passed through the Hardest Mile on the Trail, a hideous gorge known as the Mahoosuc Notch.

This stretch is a jumble of boulders, some as large as houses.

Sometimes we climbed over.

Sometimes under.

Sometimes the tunnels were maddening hard.

It took us 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete the mile.

Naturally, the AT builders saw fit to follow up the Notch with a 2000 foot almost vertical climb.

We did a grand total of 5.9 miles and were exhausted by the end of the day. 😥
